Learn how hundreds of American small businesses have used Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) finance and insurance products to gain access to emerging markets overseas. Discover how you can take advantage of all the products OPIC has to offer to expand internationally while supporting growth at home. Participants will also hear from other U.S. government agencies that offer programs complementary to OPIC, including market research, international partner search, trade financing and feasibility study funding.
OPIC, the U.S. government’s development finance institution, offers a variety of financial tools including direct loans and political risk insurance, to help businesses invest in new and emerging markets. Since 1971, OPIC has supported nearly $200 billion of investment in thousands of projects in more than 150 countries around the world, generating $74 billion in U.S. exports, and creating jobs in local economies overseas as well as in the U.S.

Small businesses in the New York region will have an opportunity to learn how to gain access to lucrative emerging markets overseas with the support of the U.S. Government’s development finance institution, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), when OPIC hosts a workshop in New York City on June 27.
Since its establishment in 1971, OPIC has committed $27.8 billion in financing and political risk insurance to projects sponsored by companies in the greater New York region – New York, New Jersey and Connecticut – supporting more than 109,000 jobs and $23.6 billion in U.S. exports (data current as of September 30, 2011).
The Expanding Horizons workshop will outline for participants the innovative financial tools that OPIC has used for 40 years to help U.S. businesses successfully invest in emerging markets. Special emphasis will be placed on opportunities in the renewable energy and clean technology sectors, an OPIC priority.
Speakers will include senior government officials from OPIC, as well as from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Export-Import Bank of the U.S., the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the U.S. Department of Commerce, including the U.S. Commercial Service and the Minority Business Development Agency.

The event is the latest in a highly successful series that has educated more than 1600 small and medium-sized business owners across the United States about OPIC products and services.
